FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is this game?

This a role playing game, set in Forks, Washington involving Isabella Swan, the population of Forks High school, the Cullen, the Quileute Tribe, and any other characters that are in the book series, Twilight. We also are accepting non-canon characters who will enhance and interact the existing characters and the game.

Does this mean that everything will happen exactly like the books?

Not at all. Some of the basic relationships will remain the same, but by involving other new characters, things may alter the course of events, speeding them up or preventing them from occurring.

How do the journals work?

The journals are an interconnected system of email accounts via a computer network system, very much like a Web CT in college. The idea is that Forks High School received a technology grant that extends to the entire school district and La Push students as well. Private email messages may be sent. Private journal entries may be made as well. But unless specified, any journal entries made will be considered a post in an open chatroom. Entries appear to everyone on the system, as do comments, and neither can be made anonymously unless posted as “Private Email” or “Private Journal”
Email accounts will be made up of the character's name @Forks.edu
Private notes and letters can be sent as well through the public mail, left in lockers or on doors. These private notes and letters should be treated as private information.

Is it okay to friends-lock my character's journal, and all my logs?

To try to keep the game welcoming to new players, and keep our activity level out in the open, we prefer to keep journals and logs unlocked with the exception of adult-rated logs. However, if you're vastly uncomfortable with unlocked entries, you may lock them. Your character's bio, however, must be unlocked for new players to peruse when they enter the game. All logs rated R or above should be locked to the community.

How does time work in the game?

The game is set in real time, beginning January, 2005. The game plays out in real time.

You've said this is a writing/threading game. Does that mean we have to write a novel every reply/entry?

Not at all. A solid reply can sometimes just be a paragraph or two, and sometimes it requires more. That depends on the scene, your personal style, and other factors. Varying length is fine. Some people writing shorter replies than others is fine. But one-liners, or players who consistently give their scene partner nothing to work with frustrates most players, and this isn't the kind of game where that sort of RP is going to fit in. On the other end of the spectrum - no one expects or wants you to pad out replies with ridiculous purple prose or nonsensical text just to meet an arbitrary word count. This is a game. We don't want to make it a chore - but it is a WRITING game, so expect to write!

What's a scene lottery? Are they required? What about mod plots, do I have to be involved? And Group Scenes?

Scene lotteries are random match-ups of characters who are assigned a scene together, and sometimes something to do in that scene. These scenes may be short, or lead to more - it's up to the players! Scene lotteries will go out bi-weekly to start with, and players are required to do at least a couple of them. We won't set a specific number, but the purpose of them is to encourage players and characters who don't play together often to have a chance to do so. The threads don't have to be long - not everything needs to be an epic adventure. Sometimes the assignments may be for characters who frequently play together, of course, but overall this is a chance to stay active and expand your circle of interaction. This is not a PSL - it's a comm. We want everyone to feel as if they can play with everyone. Forks is a physically large town, but the student body and other populations are not huge; there aren't enough peole that some wouldn't have SOME contact with one another!

Mod Plots are plot nudges from mods. They may be small and individualized - the mods telling a character they found something, or having someone overhear a conversation. Or it may be large scale and effect all players, such as a school game or dance. No, you don't have to participate in every one. But we ask that you do take part in at least a few. RP is a social and writing hobby - the more effort you as players put in, the more you will get out of it. (That goes for us too!) Group Scenes will be a another mod device to foster interaction. They will be threaded, though individual players can play them out via AIM or googledocs or their chosen medium and post the edited log as a reply to the thread, in parts if need be. Group Scenes may be important events, such as a town festival, or something simple and silly like a date.

I don't like giving out contact information for games. Can I stay anonymous?

Yup. You can give us a chosen handle instead of a name, of course. We have to have some method of contact for you, so whether it be AIM, email, or dropbox is up to you. (We ask NOT to use the PM system as it can be inconsistent.) Due to the comment-rot problem, we prefer that you have an email for the mods to contact you at, and we'd like to have an AIM name, but how much you want to give us is up to you. Just remember that this IS a game where you are expected to play with other players, and that sometimes takes OOC communication. If you are inactive, or only active with one other person, then you will eventually be removed.

I don't agree with how someone is playing their character. They seem OOC. Should I tell them?

No. If you really feel it's incredibly OOC, then come to the mods. If there is a problem, WE will approach the player. But not all characters are going to line up with how you (or we, for the matter) see them. If Alice Cullen suddenly starts reading peoples minds and telling them all- we will definitely intervene. If you think that Character A and Character B would SO not hook up/get along/hate each other - then we won't. And neither should you.

What are the Recaps for?

The recaps are a history of threads and events that are gathered weekly or bi-weekly to help newcomers get into the game and catch up, or established players remember what happened.
